Carl Jung's AION Decoded

In Mysterium Conjunctionis, Jung wrote that he has studied mystical experiences for more than thirty years. Our task is to find where this study appears in his writings. With the analysis of a case of multiple mystical experiences, we will identify the four symbols appearing in those phenomena which are a complexio oppositorum, a combination of two pairs of opposites in conjunction. These symbols are precisely those identified in Jung’s AION: Researches into the Phenomenology of the Self. In this book, he used both the Gnostics and Gerard Dorn’s three experiences of conjunction of opposites to construct his own model of three encounters with the Self. Those experiences are signposts of a successful individuation process.
